In this session, we'll showcase how to use drawing standardization, Autodesk proprietary formats, and publicly available information to quickly create dynamic near-real-time models of our sites in InfraWorks software. This process can often take hours to carefully insert each bit of information and set a style to carry out and get the desired look. However, by using drawing standards and InfraWorks rule sets, we can generate a site model in a fraction of the time—making this ideal for discussion with stakeholders and the public.

Creating custom bridge parts ready for modeling transportation projects in InfraWorks software can be challenging for the uninitiated. This class will provide the chance to learn how to create these parts using both the Revit and Inventor methodologies from scratch in a hands-on environment. We will look at the benefits of each method and how each can be incorporated into a transportation project and progressed through the workflow from modeling in InfraWorks to the documentation phase in Revit. These techniques will be worked through in the context of bridge engineering, but they will also be applicable to tunneling.

The Volterra-Detroit Foundation (VDF) set out on a mission to digitize the history of Volterra, which dates back beyond the Roman era into the ancient histories of the Etruscan era. VDF won an Epic MegaGrant from Epic Games to use the Unreal Engine back in 2020. Now, with Autodesk and Epic partnering even closer, there are so many wonderful workflows that we've used to activate all the survey data into Autodesk and Epic products. This class will focus on taking data from products like ReCap Pro, ReCap Photo, InfraWorks, Revit, and 3ds Max software into the world of Epic with products like RealityCapture, RealityScan, Twinmotion, Quixel, and the Unreal Engine. This will be an in-depth technical course that shows the picks and clicks involved in getting through some of the toughest challenges the foundation faced while digitally preserving the wonderful history of Volterra.

Have you struggled with, “what do I do now that I have a point cloud?” It is a common question in the infrastructure industry. There’s an abundance of software that will assist in the post processing of point clouds into a working/usable format. If you have the Architecture, Engineering & Construction Collection, you have all you need. Using a "real-world infrastructure project," this class will walk you through the step-by-step process of post processing drone-collected photogrammetric data. Using products available within your AEC Collection (ReCap Photo software, ReCap Pro software, InfraWorks software, and Civil 3D software) surveyors and designers will be able to generate a working existing-condition drawing.

Learn the workflow to place embankment around the coastal regions by using InfraWorks software to create a conceptual design. Use Flood Simulation to simulate, visualize, and analyze 2D flood simulations in the model and export from InfraWorks to Civil 3D software for the detailed design, with all the model information. Finally, use IoT to monitor the embankment after construction. This system will enable early detection of disturbing phenomena or events occurring in the flood embankments, thus enabling early response and prevention of crisis.

Autodesk has developed integrations with Esri through products like the Autodesk Connector for ArcGIS in InfraWorks software and Civil 3D software. Esri has likewise developed integration technology between various parts of the ArcGIS platform and Autodesk’s products. Come see an update of Esri’s work this year that includes significant enhancements to Esri’s ArcGIS for AutoCAD, ArcGIS desktop support for AutoCAD Civil 3D, improved Revit file support, and a new connection to BIM 360 software. This overview will provide a perspective of Esri’s work to improve interoperability between geographic information system (GIS) and design workflows delivering on the promise of the strategic partnership between these two companies.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is a state agency responsible for more than 550 miles of highway. As design and construction projects increase in complexity, the Commission faces multiple challenges with data management and variations in project deliverables. With advancing technology, their final goal is to implement digital models as a requirement for project bidding. In congruence with current challenges and goals, they partnered with Microdesk to integrate organization standards and initiate the process of building intelligent 3D model designs using Civil 3D software. The solutions included creating master files of all 550+ miles of highway, CAD/BIM standards for project deliverables, and development of intelligent modeling workflows for Corridors, Drainage, and ROW, all with intelligence that is used to feed geographic information systems (GIS) and asset management systems. These solutions provided a reduction in rework, easier access to data, and an integrated system between departments.

3D models help us to create better-quality products, but also help us to visualize our designs in various ways: 3D images, videos, games, 360 panoramas, virtual tours, augmented reality, virtual reality, and so on. All these are digital and are able to reach a big audience. Sometimes we need to step out of this digital world and go back to the basics! Brick Reality is a partly 3D printed and partly Lego build of a 3D road design. This class will show you how an InfraWorks model was made and turned into visualizations and a 3D-printed/Lego model.

Quantify and present design options by importing a FormIt Pro massing model into Revit software to quickly document space-planning and feasibility studies. Intended for intermediate to advanced users of AutoCAD Civil 3D software and InfraWorks software, this class is designed to show civil design professionals techniques and nuances for creating a real-time interactive environment of their site designs using Autodesk's Stingray game engine. This class will consist of a live demonstration showing how to create a "world" out of your site design that can be navigated utilizing an Xbox One controller and a virtual reality headset. Specifically, this class will discuss workflow issues the presenter encountered when constructing a one-square-mile simulation of the urban core of Austin, Texas, utilizing only LIDAR (light detection and ranging) and planimetric data.

In this session, we'll go over the details of how to keep and maintain civil site plans in AutoCAD Civil 3D software, export those to Revit software and Collaboration for Revit cloud service, and incorporate both in InfraWorks software for sharing and presenting.

This class will provide an overview of BIM implementation on one of the world's largest projects, the Panama Canal Third Set of Locks project which includes two massive lock facilities - one on the Atlantic side and another on the Pacific - each with three chambers and complex mechanical and electrical systems for locking Neo-Panamax vessels.BIM technology was used to manage the design and construction of this complex project.What if we started the Panama Canal Expansion today, with the dramatic advances in BIM that have occurred in only the last few years? With InfraWorks - which was not available during the planning phase - we can propose site design and road layout with GIS information. With Revit Parts - which was not available during the design phase - we can slice a model easily with sketch lines to produce the lift models for the concrete pouring sequence.With BIM 360 cloud services - also newly available - we can work better across regions and continents for design collaboration.Integrating these BIM tools with Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality technologies, we can now better visualize our design during the construction process. This presentation will present a "what if" scenario, to study how the design of this mega-project would proceed today, and to propose a new design template for the future.

This session will focus on optimizing corridor modeling using custom subassemblies. The speaker will reveal how a single subassembly can be applied to different solutions in a variety of situations. We will discuss modeling peculiarities in rocky terrain (rock cut). The speaker will explain how to use Civil 3D software in early bridge designing and model coordination. You learn to make fast and efficient combinations of element classifications system with a Civil 3D model.

The aging of bridges and increased vehicular traffic has made it important that elevated highway structures receive timely and accurate inspections. Today's procedures for inspections require special equipment, disrupt traffic flow, and expose inspection personnel to safety hazards. The advent of drones that can carry cameras in close proximity to elevated structures presents an opportunity to conduct inspections quickly, safely, and effectively. Towards this goal, this class presents an end-to-end system for robotic bridge inspection. The system creates flight missions; evaluates visual quality of data collection; generates 3D models; detects and localizes surface distresses in 3D; and generates reports complying with the requirements of highway agencies. We’ll share lessons learned from deploying this system on 30 bridge inspection projects in the United States and Japan concerning procedures for documenting, communicating, and following up on bridge inspectors’ recommendations.
