The goal of this presentation is to help Revit users who are looking to use code to improve their workflows. Revit API might sound impossible to learn, but it's not that complicated if you follow the right road map. The speaker has created hundreds of Revit add-ins, made about 100 video tutorials on Revit API, and taught hundreds if not thousands of people how to do the same. And this presentation will show you where you should start and which basics you should focus on. This will be a great brief introduction to Revit API basics, and will demonstrate how to apply it to create a custom Revit add-in.

It all began with a simple Dynamo script displaying a popup window to users with some useful information about the document. As the script development advanced, we transitioned to a Revit macro. The tool grew and even more features were added to assist users in managing their model's quality. Eventually, our team reached a point where the macro wasn't practical enough. That's when we created an installable C# add-in, turning the former model health check into a comprehensive wizard with an Autosolve function. Now, many common errors are automatically resolved when Revit starts or syncs, leaving only more complex issues for users to review. Dedicated windows within the tool have been designed to help users evaluate logical errors, such as area analysis. The wizards toolkit is complemented by a robust automatic classification function. This course guides you through our development journey, unveiling the wizard button's magical potential and the insights gained along the way.

We'll look at how it's measured through advanced technology such as Revit software, Dynamo, and Autodesk Platform Services (formerly Forge), and why it is crucial to consider. We will explore real-world examples of how embodied carbon impacts building portfolios over time, and how it can affect the planet's future. We'll also examine how considering carbon assessments at different scales (regions, cities, buildings, interiors, and products) can help investors and executives make more-informed decisions on strategies to decarbonize their property portfolios.

The current pressing issue of sustainability in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry is changing the way buildings are designed and made. The basis of a sustainable project is the design and engineering principles that are used to achieve specific sustainable-development goals. But it's not always clear how we can meet sustainability goals with the use of specific technology. In this class, we'll focus on a piece of the technology landscape that Autodesk offers in the AEC industry, called Generative Design. We'll show some practical sustainable-design use cases that are solved with Generative Design in Revit software, going from architectural concept through building engineering to fabrication optimization. At the end of this session, you'll have some fresh inspiration on how to solve your own sustainable-design challenges with the use of automation and generative design methods.

When beginning a project in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry, we're no longer simply met with the question of how to best use Revit software. The new goal is to take advantage of the myriad computational tools and processes available to the design team throughout the life of the project. In this session, we’ll review how to set out computational targets and tasks for a project at each stage of design. We will discuss how to engage management in goal setting through the use of a visual planning medium, enabling quality-assurance feedback as scripts are run. We’ll tackle prerequisites to running Dynamo scripts, as well as topics including ensuring the proper families are loaded into your models and ensuring the script is up to date. At the end of the session, you'll understand more about setting appropriate computational goals for a project that your team can actually achieve.

Exhibition design of any sort has a unique set of needs based on event diversity, and equine and livestock venues are no different. The frequent transition of layouts demands a wide variety of designs. The Populous Equine and Expo team recently implemented Dynamo and Generative Design in Revit software to provide optimized outcomes driven by underlying data and customer requirements for future growth. Through this effort, Populous was able to produce detailed higher-quality layouts at 95% efficiency. This panel discussion will review the outcome of this exercise, focusing on time savings during stall and pen layouts at the conceptual phase, and providing a look into planned developments around automation and resulting BIM (Building Information Modeling) content. We will highlight the value of building your own tools and maximizing automation workflows, and discuss our plans for the next steps in expanding the applicability to other market sectors.

This masterclass will cover how to link PlanGrid with next-generation BIM 360 Docs software by utilizing the power of data collection through BIM 360 workflows and PlanGrid field reports. The speaker will be able to demonstrate the added benefit of being able to maximize data for trend analysis via Microsoft Power Bi and automatic modeling by integrating the output with Dynamo software. We will cover basic principles of PlanGrid and usability for the average user, alongside best practices, work-arounds, shortcuts, limitations, and benefits. In this session, we will explore some Dynamo tips and tricks to improve your workflow, add efficiency to your graphs, and maybe even add a little fun to your day. We will look at some simple tips that you can easily implement in your daily workflow to add automation and increase efficiency. We will also explore some more-complicated tips and tricks that are less general and designed for specific architecture, engineering, construction, and owner-operated (AECO) workflows. We will also spend some time looking at tricks that take advantage of the latest Dynamo updates, including Dynamo extensions for Dynamo 2.x. Then we will wrap it all up by looking at some of the packages that make these tips and tricks possible. While the general flow of this class will be exploratory and fun, the tips and tricks reviewed will help you increase efficiency and productivity within your everyday Dynamo workflow.

Our intelligent models are rich with modeled elements, parameters, and materials; they're ripe for the assessment of their CO2 impact. Yet how do we make that process seamless? During this session we'll review ways to pull your BIM (Building Information Modeling) elements and apply rich Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) data sets against them, pushing that information back into Revit software, and visualize the overall impact using Revit software’s available color schemes.

Dynamo for a long time has been the go-to tool of Revit users to quickly script solutions to time-consuming routine problems. However, there is much more that Dynamo can do beyond scripting. This class will cover the struggles our CAD/BIM department faced in managing Autodesk products, and how we used batch files to streamline the process. We'll explore batch files that update, configure, and manage AutoCAD software, Revit software, and Dynamo software. Topics include distributing the Revit.ini, resetting the AutoCAD profile, distributing Dynamo to the masses, and much more. By the end of the class, attendees will learn how to create, execute, and apply batch files to everyday CAD/BIM management tasks.

Currently there are many engineering software systems designed to efficiently evaluate different structural solutions and/or strategies for reinforced concrete buildings. However, turning the adopted solution into a full Revit model (including rebars in RC elements) is still a very time-consuming task that diminishes the efficiency obtained in the previous analysis/design phase. Native Revit tools for rebar detailing are helpful if structural elements are limited in number, but they lack the required efficiency when working in middle- to large-size projects. In this class, you'll see the challenges faced, and the workflow and solutions used to develop a Dynamo tool that communicates via API with the finite element analysis software CSI ETABS 2016. This tool automatically puts the reinforcement of different structural elements (such as regular and irregular walls, columns, and beams) into the Revit model.
