SAMSUNG C&T uses digital twins to optimize building operations. We have developed a digital twin with BIM and AI in an office building with a total floor area of 100,000 square meters, and we are utilizing it to operate the building. The basic functions are the Energy/Asset/Space Management, and Virtual Tours. In particular, the energy management function monitors building energy usage in real time. And we have developed 10 solutions for energy management that can save energy while maintaining the comfort of occupants in the building. These solutions are derived through AI-based machine learning models and optimization algorithms to provide real-time notifications to building operators for sustainable and optimized building energy management. Therefore, SAMSUNG C&T aims to provide efficient building operation and management services by simultaneously implementing digital spaces, going beyond the role of a construction company that constructs physical spaces.

The Volterra-Detroit Foundation (VDF) set out on a mission to digitize the history of Volterra, which dates back beyond the Roman era into the ancient histories of the Etruscan era. VDF won an Epic MegaGrant from Epic Games to use the Unreal Engine back in 2020. Now, with Autodesk and Epic partnering even closer, there are so many wonderful workflows that we've used to activate all the survey data into Autodesk and Epic products. This class will focus on taking data from products like ReCap Pro, ReCap Photo, InfraWorks, Revit, and 3ds Max software into the world of Epic with products like RealityCapture, RealityScan, Twinmotion, Quixel, and the Unreal Engine. This will be an in-depth technical course that shows the picks and clicks involved in getting through some of the toughest challenges the foundation faced while digitally preserving the wonderful history of Volterra.

This presentation will combine 3ds Max 2024 software's latest features with RailClone and Forest Pack, enabling new, efficient, procedural modeling approaches. This presentation will showcase how a collaborative design approach enabled the project team to deliver a high-quality interactive application on Wembley Park, London. The partnership between 3ds Max software and Unity 3D Technology will feature in this talk, and we’ll focus on how a 7 billion polygon, 3D masterplan model can be displayed interactively, enabling design teams to have a down-to-the-wire approach to uncompromised visual quality. Wembley Park is one of Europe’s biggest regeneration projects with 8,400 homes. The 8.8 million-square-foot mixed-use project is being developed by the multi-award-winning developer, Quintain.

Generally, the Design Automation API enables you to integrate an automated batch processor into a pipeline to process files in the cloud. In the Design Automation context, Revit software, AutoCAD software, and Inventor software generally work with native file formats; but in the case of 3ds Max software, the list of file formats that we can import and work with is more extensive. This traditional strength of 3ds Max—of importing and working with a huge number of file formats—opens the way for multiple workflows, including visualization. In this class, we will present an overview of some possible Design Automation rendering workflows, as well as discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each workflow. We will explore the benefits with a pros-and-cons approach, including costs (time and credits), which will help you decide the ultimate approach and benefits.

Designing a virtual reality (VR) environment for the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry depends greatly on content building groups. It leads to designing time consumption for the areas that are not the focus of AEC. Correlating with some level generator aspect of the gaming industry, the expense of environment generation could be reduced with highly varied environment design options. Using the algorithms of procedural generation and VR rendering options, a combination of human-generated assets using Maya software or 3ds Max software and algorithms can render an autogenerated and assorted range of VR environments in Revit software or related AEC tools. We will discuss a study of how procedural generated levels in a Spelunky game can be related to the VR environment generation for AEC, as well as how construction and building design can benefit from existing methodologies in the gaming industry.

Godrej Storage Solutions is the largest intralogistics solutions provider in India and in Asia abroad. It deals with projects that are unique and customized. The major output is a general arrangement drawing of the warehouse layout. Due to its complex nature, the designs are prepared in 2D layouts and reviewed by customers. This process involves multiple iterations before the customer gets a complete idea about the proposal. After many such iterations, technical sign-off happens but with the uncertainty of an error-free solution. To reduce this long cycle time and for better visibility for the customer, the Godrej design team makes 3D walk-through videos of a complete warehouse with all civil details. This helps the stakeholder to virtually visualize the full warehouse facility during the design stage itself and ensures no conceptual errors. Another aspect of the project business is that the project location and decision makers are not co-located. Hence, visualization helps them making timely and accurate decisions.

The class will go through the different steps of developments of a virtual-reality (VR) experience applied to the field of architecture and real estate. The class will discuss planning, scripting, storyboarding, prototyping, shooting for VR content, shooting aerial content for VR, producing 3D computer-generated content, and tracking live-action spherical content for VR. This class will be an in-depth look at one firm's road into virtual reality (VR) and how we use it as a design tool. The road was unpaved and littered with skeptics and the unknown. Pushing forward led us somewhere unexpected. We'll run through a case study involving upwards of 10 active projects that benefited from and pushed our knowledge of VR. Using a live Vive demonstration, we'll go inside these projects and show how they benefited from this new technology. There will be time at the end for questions, and the opportunity for attendees to get hands-on with our builds. This discussion will include a basic understanding of our workflow, translating models from Revit software into 3ds Max software then into the Stingray gaming engine and also Unity.

Virtual reality (VR) is currently one of the most discussed architecture, engineering, and construction topics, and there are already many interesting use cases for architects and design presentation. But how can this technology be used for real construction scenarios? This session is based on a VR scenario for a shopping center designed and constructed by a major German construction company. It will show the power of the VR technology using different design phases, levels of development, and timelines.
